About
Sam Reynolds is a Central Hawke's Bay farmer and Co-Director of Ovenden Seeds, a specialist seed production and export business supplying herb and vegetable seed to customers around the world.
Before purchasing Ovenden Seeds in 2022, Sam held farm management and cropping roles across New Zealand, the United Kingdom, Italy and Tanzania. His experience spans large-scale commercial cropping, organic production systems, fresh produce supply chains and specialist seed crops. Sam is particularly passionate about innovation in agriculture and identifying new opportunities that improve both farm profitability and environmental outcomes.
A graduate of the Kellogg Rural Leadership Programme, Sam enjoys contributing to conversations about the future of New Zealand agriculture and the role farmers can play in achieving sustainable land use outcomes.
Today, Sam manages seed production across owned and leased land in Central Hawke's Bay while working with growers throughout New Zealand to produce high-value seed crops for international markets. He enjoys finding practical solutions to farming challenges and is committed to ensuring productive farming systems can coexist with strong environmental stewardship.
Sam is looking forward to contributing a grower perspective, practical farming experience and a passion for innovation to the Tukituki Land Care Committee.

Farm type: Arable and seed production. We grow and export herb and vegetable seed crops and work with growers throughout New Zealand to produce seed for international markets.
On-farm goals or achievements: Building a world-leading seed multiplication business from Central Hawke's Bay and introducing new, high-value crop opportunities for New Zealand growers.
Biggest challenges: Balancing profitability, environmental expectations and increasing climate variability, while continuing to innovate and grow.
