ABOUT OUR CATCHMENT
The Papanui Catchment covers 15,473 hectares. It contains 135 farms greater than 20 hectares in size, the majority running sheep and beef, followed by cropping, and some dairy production. Ōtane is the catchment’s largest settlement with Waipawa township just south and Pukehou to the north. The catchment starts in the limestone springs in the Raukawa range and has drainage channels on the flats. The soil types range from alluvial to peat and limestone formed soils.
